Vertebral Subluxations and your Child’s Developing Immune System

Your immune system is comprised of your tonsils, adenoids, thymus gland, bone marrow, spleen, appendix, Peyer’s patches, lymph nodes, and white blood cells.  Its job is to help protect your body from external pathogens and disease-producing microorganisms. When you present with symptoms like nasal discharge, swollen glands, or a fever, this is just your immune system doing its job and signs that it is functioning as it should.

When your baby is born, they have an immature immune system. Luckily, they have a passive immunity from their mother they developed in the womb.  Breastfeeding provides the baby with antibodies from he mother to enhance their immunity and help it develop.  Every drop of their mother’s milk contains millions of white blood cells and immunoglobins that will help fight infections. Most parents are nervous when babies put everything in their mouths. This is completely ok for your baby. Being exposed naturally to antigens this way, the baby will start building up antibodies and strengthen their immune systems. So what does this have to do with chiropractic? When a baby or child has subluxations, their nerve flow will be blocked to these immune system organs. When the nervous energy cannot reach these organs, the correct immune response will not occur and the immune system is weakened. Getting adjusted and restoring this energy flow to the immune system can boost it and help their bodies fight off all of these pathogens. Attached is a great video called “Strengthening Your Child’s Immune System”.
